Another one of my pets is an African Dwarf Frog. As part of our hands-on science program these little
guys became a favorite. They tend to spend very little time doing much of anything. They look to be on the lazy side. They are content to just hang out on the bottom of the tank or rest in some plants near the surface. They are totally aquatic frogs and will leave only a dried out crusty skeleton if they jump out. They are great fun to watch when they decide to swim or move. Don’t confuse these with African Clawed Frogs which have bigger leg and can grow to the size of your fist. These little guys don’t get much bigger. They are bottom dwellers and eat fish food and blood worms. Most everything I have learned about these cute little guys is by observation or http://allaboutfrogs.org/froglnd.shtml or my favorite part http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/mypets/dwarfs.html. These little ones are more fun to watch when the have a friend or two.

Unfortunately due to some chemical contamination our little friend died on November 6th. It was amazing that the fish seemed to handle the chemicals; however, the frog lasted a day or two. He is already being missed. This proves that some species are more susceptible than others to pollution. Do you know what animals in the ecosystems around your house are the most affected by pollution? I would also like to hear what animals you know exist or live in your neighborhoods. Which ones do you see the most often here or in all of Irving?
