“Once you learn to read you will be forever free.”

Frederick Douglass

Question for thought- How can knowing how to read make you free?

Click on the word Comment below to write in your thoughts.  Take time to think about what to write before you start.  Maybe write some ideas down.  You may inspire someone else, help them bring meaning to the quote, or remind them of a really good book they have read.

Winter Activities:  Many animals change behaviors in the winter months as well as their coloration.  One of the most interesting habits is hibernation.

bat-hibernating.jpg              Name an animal if you can that hibernates then talk about activities that you do that are different in the winter than other months.  Think about your activities in the summer and how they are different than in the winter.

momma1.jpg3rd photo :  breeding female .  I have not update on my fish in a while, so here it goes.  I wanted students to see the coloration of my now “teenaged” fish.  This one was born early this summer.  I will also show you the mother or the one I suspect is the mother.  Look at the difference in coloration between males and females,  adults and fry (babies).  The fry are pictured in October/September.  You may have to click on the fish category on your right to see all photos.  Why do you think they are different?  What are other physical traits fish share and what are learned traits?

rigby-6weeks.jpgThis week bulldogs I would like participating classes to see if they can come up with an example for each of the words below?  If you can’t find all of them it is ok to put only the ones you know.

Can you find an animal that is a/an . . . . .

millipede.jpgpossum.jpgheron.jpgsalamander.jpg
invertebrate?    vertebrate?     reptile?     mammal?     bird?     fish?     amphibian?
arthropod?     arachnid?     nocturnal animal?     carnivore?     omnivore?     herbivore?

Remember you do not have to find an example of all of them.  You can pick five or even less depending on the amount of time you have.  How many did you know without having to look them up?
